Mexico City (Day 5)

Today we worked with the children, as usual, but I wanted to show a different side of things than what the prior day’s pictures showed. I wanted to show what goes on behind the scenes, once all of the games are over and the kids are being taught God’s Word out of the book of Daniel. The games bring them in, and with God’s help they all sit attentively listening. Then the ladies proceed to do crafts with the children.

Afterward, we all proceeded down the busy streets of Mexico City to one of the many museums available. This particular one showed the ancient history of Mexico, and also the “history” of mankind. This is just a small example of what they teach in the schools there, and they are very steeped in the teachings of evolution. As a matter of fact they had a replica of “Lucy” (One of the missing links that has been disproved quite a long time ago, but you can’t tell them that). I thought the picture of Lucy behind the glass was cool, because I didn’t notice until I looked closer that you can see Jimmy and Savanna in the reflection of the glass (They were in front of me when I took the picture). Outside of the museum the girls “enjoyed” some cotton candy. “Enjoyed” is in quotes because after they bought it, they realized it tasted like the insulation that it looked like!

Monday was the first day that we worked with the children in Vacation Bible School. Each of us took a station and the kids moved from one station to another. We had games and conprods and then we worked our way into crafts. Needless to say, we left the teaching to those who were a little more familiar with the language!

After VBS was over some of us spent time working on the building. (ie. toilets, roof, lighting, etc) Janet was a little concerned that Duane might come falling through the roof, but he was wise enough to run for parts and not get up there in the first place. Read more

Started our day at Blake’s church (La Roca De Vida) where Duane preached the sermon and Mark gave his prodimony. Then we headed to the bowling alley where we made up three teams and bowled for an hour. It didn’t matter if you guttered it or made a strike, everyone cheered! Then a few of us proceeded down the PACKED streets of Mexico City to get true authentic tacos, where they shaved the meat from a piece of huge ham on a spit, and we became familiar with the infamous habanero.
